Jonas Sommer


Jonas joined our Digital Tech Team in January 2022 as an Investment Associate. He holds Bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Physics from the University of Munich and Peking University as well as a Master in Data Science from Munich University and UC Berkeley. Before joining btov Jonas collected 2 years of operational experience in building and operating intelligence augmentation SaaS. He worked as Data Scientist at Palantir Technologies in London, and in Product Roles at two startups – at Parkdepot and bao solutions – in Munich.

Since his time in Asia and California, Jonas loves to drink boba tea.

JS -Grit, Curiosity, Loyalty
Q -Which technology or trend excites you the most?
JS -Disruption through decentralized technology. Not only for blockchains but for example also in terms of decentralized energy production, which will be replacing centralized power plants.
Q -What did you want to be when you were a kid?
JS -When I was younger, I wanted to become a professor of physics.
Q -Which person do you admire the most and why?
JS -Maryam Mirzakhani – not only because she was a great mathematician but also because she was very humble.

JS -I am learning a bit of Mandarin each day.

JS -I am addicted to information.
Q -Which founder do you admire the most and why?
JS -Jaroslaw Kutylowski from DeepL – because he built a startup which is disrupting the Sillicon Valley companies in their home turf of machine translation.
Q -Which investor do you admire the most and why?
JS -Peter Thiel for always discovering previously unknown perspectives and swimming against the current. Does not necessarily work in the field of politics – but works in the fields of investing and innovating.
