James Li’s personal interests span from technologies that enable paradigm shifts to innovations that help improve our daily life, in sectors ranging from smart cities, autonomous driving, renewable, to internet, lift style and healthcare. He is the founder and CEO of the E. J. McKay Group, a leading Chinese investment bank active in cross-border M&A and Corporate Finance transactions. He is also the Chairman of Unistone Capital, the principal investment arm of E. J. McKay.
James holds an AB with honors in Economics from Harvard University, an MSc. in Industrial Relations from Oxford University, and an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago. Prior to founding E. J. McKay, he was an investment banker with Merrill Lynch in New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong, a consultant with McKinsey in Shanghai, and the founder CEO of an internet startup based on Palo Alto.
James has taught at London Business School, Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University, he is a Mentor at CKGSB, and the Schwarzman College at Tsinghua, and speaks at the World Economic Forum, Harvard China Forum, and the Chicago Economics Conference. He is a Jade Connector of the Asia Society Zurich, the benefactor of scholarships at Harvard University and Dartmouth College. He is the Secretary General of the Harvard Club of South China, and a Trustee of the Dandelion School in Beijing, a middle school for the children of migrant workers.
